BENQ releases V2 firmware for XL2411Z, XL2420Z, XL2720Z

BENQ just made an announcement for the V2 firmware for the BENQ Z-Series monitor. It is compatible with Blur Busters Strobe Utility – this utility allows adjusting (fix) the artifact discovered by Blur Busters.

UPDATE: Here are V2 Firmware upgrade instructions (if you already have a Z-Series), or alternatively, purchase Z-Series with V2 firmware preinstalled (if not purchased yet).

BenQ’s announcement is a joke. They said the blur reduction in the XL-Z monitors was optimized for gaming? (are they sure about that?) My XL2720Z looks worse with BenQ blur reduction on than if I just leave it off! I love the effective 4″ strip in the middle-top where it does work.

BenQ: ‘Regardless, the XL-Z line was released with the firmware version tested for the most optimal gaming experience. There is no need to upgrade the firmware for further improvement.’

Seriously? I wonder if they optimized the brightness glitch with the display-pivot software too. (adjusting brightness to maximum the display suddenly becomes much darker than it was right before adjusting it to 100% brightness, even if it was already at 100% brightness – just clicking on display pilot brightness slider makes the screen get darker).

BenQ: ‘…This is why we have looked into every detail of gaming displays, thoroughly evaluating and considering factors such as brightness, input lag and so on, and how these factors may affect various gaming scenarios, before we made the final decision on the setting of Motion Blur Reduction. The technology may not yet be perfect for every type of display usage, but it is without a doubt optimized for gaming. ‘

Look, BenQ -the issue isn’t whether the technology works or not it’s a matter of where it works, the synchronization is off on a majority of the screen. ‘…the technology may not yet be perfect for every type of display usage…’ this isn’t the problem, your skirting the issue now. The ghosting on the bottom of the screen isn’t bad – its horrible. I bought the monitor specifically for this feature, over requiring a hack on the Asus to achieve the same thing.
I have the V2 firmware downloaded, but I honestly dont know what firmware I’m even running at the moment (box says Nov 2013, monitor was purchased Feb 2014). Various tools like MonInfo and so forth give detailed info on the monitor but they lack any firmware information. I know there’s a service menu in these monitors but I have yet to get into it (does not appear to work on the XL2720Z holding buttons while turning on).

Im at a point of abandoning motion blur reduction altogether. I want the monitor to have the option to turn on and off AND adjust varying levels of intensity in the monitor’s menu with the new firmware and this was what I was under the impression that they were going to enable with the new ‘major’ release of the firmware. At this rate the XL2720Z is my first and last BenQ monitor.
